Shenandoah University Conservatory student Shane Simpson is appearing in movie theatres around the world in the hit summer musical comedy “Hairspray,” which was released by New Line Cinema on July 20. Simpson plays the role of Skillet, one of the kids in detention at a Baltimore high school who helps the movie's heroine dance her way to success and happiness. Simpson, who plans to graduate with a degree in dance in 2009, is well on his way to establishing a secure foundation for a lifetime in the arts. He had a role in “The Other Me,” a made-for-TV movie released in 2000. In fact, many new university students become rather overwhelmed by the number of choices they have. Frequently students enter the university with one major in mind and ultimately graduate with a totally different major. Solid secondary school preparation by way of a good selection of college-bound courses certainly helps guide a student toward their prospective major. Despite strong secondary school schedules, which helps formulate interest areas, and well-meaning friends and families who all offer their suggestions and opinions, the most popular major for first-year university students in the U.S. is “undecided”.
